First post from Pine ... let's see how this goes, considering it's a new thing for me until I get my Wordpress site back.

Welcome to Pine.blog!

I’m torn on paying businesses to continue existing. Like that’s part of the allure of business no? That it might fail? I was hoping this would be a chance for more environments to reform their living places into co-ops.

   sonicrocketman

I was specifically referring to housing not business, but you bring up a good point.

I think it’s important to distinguish between normal business failure (i.e. because of uninteresting products/services, etc) and the unprecedented upheaval of a global catastrophe. This kind of scenario isn’t really reasonable to expect them to adequately prepare for something like this and leaving so many businesses to fail only increases the economic hardship to come for everyone. Rent is a foundation of our entire business and residential economy. Letting that fail is like taking the bottom bricks in Jenga.

IMO at times like this it’s important to think about things not from a personal or individual business level but from the perspective of the entire economy. One business failing or one person getting evicted doesn’t really mean anything globally, but tens of thousands per month is catastrophic and can be avoided.

I launched Micro.blog and everything else exclusively on this old 13-inch MacBook Pro. Not fast enough, not enough memory, not enough disk space, no monitor. I think an upgrade after 5 years is going to be amazing.

   sonicrocketman

I upgraded from the same computer. It's great. I love my new 13".

I am entirely down with this. I love weird units of measurement.

If I understand the measurement correctly, 1 corona is ~3.6 cubits.

   sonicrocketman

This also makes it easy to explain to people: Don't come within 1 corona of a sick person or you'll need to quarentine for 1 fortnight.

I'm gonna start using "corona" as a unit of measurement. Who's with me?
"I was at the grocery store and this guy came within one corona of me!"
"The protests stretched for like 200 coronas!"

I noticed I wasn’t seeing your feed in Monocle. It looks like your jsonfeed doesn't validate: https://validator.jsonfeed.org/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpine.blog%2Fu%2Fsonicrocketman%2Ffeed.json

I subscribed to your microformats feed and that’s working smoothly!

   sonicrocketman

btw, let me know if you want to try out Pine.blog's Webmention thing. I saw your msg about it. I can give you a coupon.

Good catch. I’ll check that out. Should have a fix shortly.

This is fantastic! Pine.blog can now receive webmentions for you, and it'll show them to you in the timeline! This is probably the best option for static sites now! https://blog.pine.blog/2020/05/bring-us-your-static-sites-yearning-to-breathe-free/

   sonicrocketman

Thanks for the shout out man!

oh awesome!!

   sonicrocketman

I don’t have MicroPub just yet. I stuck with Wordpress for replies for now but I started laying the groundwork. I may need some guidance implementing IndieAuth.

First quarantine haircut. About two months overdue. Definitely turned out lopsided so I'm styling it like this instead. #selfie

   sonicrocketman

Looks good. I haven’t been brave enough to do more than slightly clean up the sides.

Hello on a new platform.

Pine.Blog seemed as good as any new place to start writing these day so what the hell...

The number of locations I have written my thoughts and streams of consciousness are so varied it is hard to really consider them all; what is one more?

The thing I want.

   sonicrocketman

Welcome to Pine.blog! Glad to have you. Looking forward to your craft beer post.

Due to a grocery delivery mixup, I have Ground Breaker’s gluten-free Porter instead of IPA #5 in the fridge.

How many months until a Porter-loving pal drops by? I’m tempted to put them in front of the house with a “Free Beer” sign, but that’s probably irresponsible?

   sonicrocketman

I would gladly take them, but Port(er)land is so far away.

Will and Testament of Makara

Honestly haven't been drawing much lately due to 2020 continuing to be a giant trash-fire of awful.

Instead here is the document I made as my pirate character's Will & Testament in case she dies. Yup, I am really that extra sometimes.

The stamps in the four corners are the same des...

   sonicrocketman

Makara is prepared for everything, including death paperwork. Truly a great quartermaster.

Time to see if this works.

   sonicrocketman

Barring some configuration errors, it did.

There's a domain still in my @namecheap shopping cart, and I genuinely don't remember what the project idea was for that domain. I guess it's good that I didn't actually buy it.

   sonicrocketman

That's my Amazon cart. I do that on purpose to stop me from buying random things. If I still need it the next time I visit the site, I'll buy it. Otherwise I just delete it; it obviously wasn't that important.

Does anyone have a list of card games where the mechanics allow it to be played remotely? Not online games tho, games that use real physical cards, where it doesn't matter that the players will be drawing from separate decks.

   sonicrocketman

Blackjack would work. Casinos use multiple decks. Granted they’re mixed up but it shouldn’t matter.

maybe if i just never respond to anything then i will stop getting new emails

   sonicrocketman

A friend of mine does that; it does seem to work. I declare email bankruptcy a lot. If it’s important they will email me again.

   Aaron Parecki

sometimes I reply to an email or slack message in my head, and only later realize that I did not in fact send the reply. this leads to undesirable results.

   sonicrocketman

I would not recommend this correspondence strategy.

omg yessss this is secretly my favorite completely useless feature

   sonicrocketman

I got jealous of them only being on your site. It's such a great, useless feature.

@sonicrocketman Hope you can join us for Homebrew Website Club on the 29th!

   sonicrocketman

Had fun at the meetup last night. Hopefully I’ll be able to join for the full time soon.

It gets my homepage URL as the author property, but I don't expect it will handle fetching that and following the authorship specification. That's more indieweb-land than microformats2.

BTW, I'm gonna have a quick IndieWeb lunch Zoom at noon today. Link will be in chat.

   sonicrocketman

Can you do me a favor and reply to this? I think I've implemented the spec and I'm testing it.

2020 goals that have not aged well so far:

  1. Level up my travel hacking skills.

  2. Plan monthly Micro.blog meetups in PDX and elsewhere.

  3. Start using a big 2020-at-a-glance wall calendar to manage a year full of conferences, cons, meetups and travel.

🤷‍♀️

   sonicrocketman

Whenever the meetups do happen, I definitely want to go. I can't wait to get back to Portland.
