Ekali Releases Eclectic Acoustic Remix and Video for “Leaving” ft. Yuna

This is one of the artist's most laid-back works.

Ekali has released the acoustic take on his song "Leaving" featuring Yuna, accompanied by a music video. The artist (real name Nathan Shaw) unveiled his highly anticipated EP Crystal Eyes on OWSLA earlier this fall, and pop gem "Leaving" was one of the singles that led up to the release.

The newly imagined version of the song is mellow and laid back in comparison to the original; the minimal instrumentation under Yuna's vocal topline evokes a soothing feeling. The visuals are equally relaxing as well, featuring Yuna, Shaw on the acoustic guitar and other musicians on the drums, bass, keys and xylophone, performing the song in a beautifully illuminated studio.

Shaw's transparent and inspirational character in conjunction with his energetic performances has allowed him to continuously grow over the past years. His steady flow of well-produced and curated music has certainly contributed to his success, in addition to remixes of songs by artists such as Flume and Jack Ü, tasteful live edits, and his Awakening Mix Series

Ekali's next performance is Your Paradise 2018 in Fiji, alongside fellow artists such as Habstrakt, What So Not and Mija

SLUMBERJACK & TroyBoi Unite on "Solid" via Monstercat

SLUMBERJACK's 'SARAWAK' EP was conceived and produced during a difficult time when touring, which ultimately led them to settle in Sarawak in Borneo, Malaysia.

SLUMBERJACK have united with TroyBoi on "Solid," the second track from their forthcoming EP, SARAWAK.

"Solid" all began when SLUMBERJACK were on tour with TroyBoi. The end product is a scorching hot instrumental trap track with volatile drops, springy beats, and unnerving anticipation into the varying sections throughout the track.

In a joint statement, SLUMBERJACK has said:

"We're going back to our SLUMBERJACK roots for 'Solid.' We really took this track on a trip around the world, starting in the USA on the cramped conditions of the tour bus and finishing it in Chine. Working with TroyBoi reminded us of the fun and keeping it simple and bouncy."

An extensive touring schedule urged SLUMBERJACK members Morgan Then and Fletcher Ehlers to seek a mental break. To regather themselves and rekindle the imagination and creativity, they headed to Then's homeland of Sarawak in Borneo, Malaysia.

An uneasy opening begins "Solid" with an old-school vibe. The track moves around the frequency spectrum with brawny 808 drums, an elongated synth melody, and heavy trap percussion. In addition to the dense percussive elements and basses, "Solid" sprinkles in a myriad of distinct effects to further solidify this already massive track.

New Fyre Festival Documentary Coming to Netflix in January

Soon you can watch Fyre Festival unravel from the comfort of your couch.

Next month, Netflix subscribers will get a chance to experience the Fyre Festival saga themselves in the form of a new documentary chronicling the disaster. Titled Fyre, this documentary will give viewers a chance to see how the event devolved from “the most exclusive festival the world has ever seen” to one of the most infamous flops in live music history.

Fyre will feature firsthand accounts from the festival's organizers and will be produced by Vice Studios, Library Films, and Jerry Media.

Fyre Festival had promised luxury accommodations and some of the biggest artists in music, but upon arrival, festival goers were treated to little more than tents and cheese sandwiches. It was scheduled for two weekends in April and May of 2017 in The Bahamas, but never made it past the pre-party.

In the aftermath of Fyre Festival, numerous lawsuits were filed against the organizers for everything from fraud to breach of contract. In October, co-founder Billy McFarland was sentenced to six years in federal prison for his role in the festival's demise.

Fyre premieres January 18th on Netflix.

Crywolf Shares Experimental, Deep Cut “C E P H A L Ø T U S”

Crywolf releases one of his most experimental songs to date.

In anticipation of a potential new album announcement, Crywolf has released yet another stellar single, “C E P H A L Ø T U S.” The singer, songwriter and producer (real name Justin Taylor Phillips) has already put out a handful of singles in the second half of 2017.

Aesthetically, “C E P H A L Ø T U S” - which is the name of a small carnivorous plant - continues on the path laid down by previous singles such as “F A L L Ø U T [antagonïzer]” and “Q U I X Ø T E [i am alone, and they are everyone].” It’s dark and mysterious, yet it’s one of Phillips’ deepest cuts. Not following a traditional song structure, it starts off with a simple guitar riff under his laid-back, pitch-shifted vocals and progresses into a minimal, almost psychedelic atmosphere.

On the topic of “C E P H A L Ø T U S,” Phillips has said:

The piece is an ode to self-annihilation. Engaging with something beautiful (the pitcher plant) knowing full well that it is going to destroy you. Not only accepting your fate, but actually reveling in every step of the dismantling. Allowing the entire process to be a rapturous applause.

Phillips has built a strong following over the years. He released his debut EP Ghosts and followed up with numerous projects, blending dubstep with unique songwriting and vocal work. Since his debut album Cataclasm in 2015, he showcases a more leftfield style that is less dependent on drops - garnering praise from fans and critics alike.

Judging by his revamped visual aesthetic and presence, fans are likely to see a new project from Crywolf fairly soon. In the meantime, stream or download “C E P H A L Ø T U S” across platforms here.

josh pan Releases Vibey New EP "the world within"

Pan drops "take your time" music video along with the EP release

It's josh pan's world and we're just living in it. Now, we get to see the world within through his new EP released of that title on OWSLA. The four-track EP shows the listener a smoother side of the NYC-based artist. He is known to keep fans on their toes with his eclectic discography, and he made sure to do just that in his latest effort. Laced with vocals that sound like butter and mesmerizing melodies, the world within is going to be your newest addiction.

The entire tracklist is phenomenal and majestic. It's a softer, soulful group of songs while still being groovy. He opens with "undefeated," which has a toe-tapping key melody that immediately draws the listener in. Pan's smooth vocals layer perfectly with the playful chord progression. The horns tie everything in during the chorus.

The next track is "take your time", which he accompanied with the music video below. It picks up the pace of the EP with the wavy beats and lo-fi composition. It's got a melody that is sure to get your head bobbing. It definitely has an R&B vibe. The intricate percussion and sliding synth are decorated with a shiny plucked arpeggiator. The funky vibe of this one goes perfectly with the eclectic visuals Pan chose below.

"overdue" slows things down. Pan's emotional lyrics melt beautifully into the atmospheric tones. The light piano chords delicately layered in the background embodies a cold rainy day, dreaming about that special someone. It's overall just a very delightful song.

The final track is "windows '17" with a light air of experimental trap. The low, distorted vocals are layered with some really cool effects. It has a vibey beat throughout. The last breakdown is an echoing vocal chop that wraps everything nicely. The little sprinkling of the xylophone mallet seals the deal here.

josh pan loves to be a man of mystery. After signing with OWSLA back in 2015, the young artist has been making major waves in the industry releasing tracks with JAUZ & Yookie, X&G, Medasin, and creating a legendary Diplo & Friends mix.  He even caused a social media frenzy after iconically revealing josh pan is actually a collection of 20 producers, ranging from Luca Lush to Jai Wolf to Pham to Cavalier (only to name a few). Of course, that was a prank, but it got the people talking. It sums up his music greatly though. He's all about self-reflection, and his music serves as a mirror for ourselves. To quote the man himself, "You are josh pan." Keep doing what you're doing, we love it.
